Our entry way has always felt a little blah to me. It is not big enough for any furniture and you can only do so much decorating in a small space. I had been throwing around the idea of painting the inside of the door and I decided to finally go for it! I am OBSESSED and wish I would have done it sooner!
I had heard good things about Fusion Mineral Paint so I decided to give them a try. I was blown away by the quality of the product. It has a built in top coat and amazing coverage so it made this project quick and easy. I was also shocked that it hardly had a smell. Usually when you paint something, you are stuck smelling it for days… not with this!
How to Paint Your Door Like a Pro
- Fusion Mineral Paint (Sacred Sage) 1 pint is plenty, I used about 1/3 of a jar
- High quality brush and microfiber roller (I used the Fusion Mineral Paint brand)
- Painters tape (frog tape is my favorite)
- Baby wipe/lysol wipe (to clean up the windows, door hardware)
Step 1: Clean & Prep
This step is important. You want to make sure you have a clean surface to start with. Our door was previously painted white. I couldn’t have sanded but didn’t feel like it was necessary. I just took a warm washcloth and wiped down the door. After everything was clean, I started taping. I skipped taping the door handles/windows because you can clean it up so easily with a cloth… it’s not worth the hassle!
Step 2: Cut in the Edges
Use your brush and cut in all the edges and grooves. We will use the roller in the next step.
Step 3: Roll the Rest of the Door
Use your microfiber roller and evenly coat the rest of the door. Try to brush in the same direction if you can. Fusion Mineral Paint is self leveling so you don’t have to worry as much as you do with normal paint about seeing brush strokes. It will dry slightly darker than it looks when you first roll it on.
Step 4: The Cleanup
I decided not to tape off the windows and the door knobs because it comes off so easily with a baby wipe or a Lysol wipe. Wait a few minutes for the paint to get tacky and you can wipe it right off! You can also use a razor blade if you wait to look on the glass. So much easier than having to tape the whole thing!
Step 5: Enjoy Your Beautiful New Door!
Fusion Mineral Paint has a built in top coat so once you are done painting, you are done!
